Pick up any newspaper and look at the Employment Ads.

See if your major is in the list of degrees sought in the ad.

If not, you majored not in a bad subject, just an unemployable one.

How often do you see Sociology, History, Art. Music, Archeology, English Lit, French Poetry, Gender studies listed in the ad?

Students who major in these subjects have wasted theirs or someone else’s money.

These are all interesting subjects, just not employable ones.

Tuition for these majors does not provide a good ROI.

Nothing wrong in taking a course in these humanity subjects.

They make great hobbies.

Just don’t major in them.

Running Out of Time

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

I am so ready to have all of this work done with. I feel like I have been packing up this house for a month, and there is still so much left to be done. The Movers Vancouver will be here in the morning, so I am running out of time. I am going to have to be working late into the night. I just hope that the kids will cooperate with me and go to bed on time tonight.

Sound Proofing Windows: How High Is the Cost, Really?

One of the effects people don’t realize they get from the sound proof windows costs, is the tax right-offs that can be acquired. Most people just think of the costs and that the only benefit will be less noise in the home. In reality, the insert or installation of sound proof materials makes an extremely energy-efficient home. It will cause your local power company to give you discounts, the state government may give you tax-credits, and the sound proofing will naturally save you money by trapping more of your precious heat and air conditioning within the home. Thank you, Mr. Connor, for thinking of and acting on the alternative to condo development – preservation of our increasingly limiited natural environment. Condos, condos, condos. Every person sees a pot of gold in the construction of condos wherever a building can be wedged onto the land, however difficult and inappropriate. Michigan’s economy is in terrible shape, yes, but the perhaps-only upside is that condo development has screeched to a halt as buyers cannot as easily be found for these quick real estate flips. In the meantime, everyone can enjoy unspoiled nature a few years longer. Thanks again for keeping your land undeveloped for more than a handful of years until the economy booms again. In the meantime, perhaps more out-of-staters will come to Michigan to enjoy these unique dunes and the beauty advice of the entire state – a water wonderland.

Dear current occupier of the oval office,

Here is a basic economic tenet that may be of some use: if you subsidize college costs, you will get more of it.

Universities know the game and exploit the amount someone or someone’s family is willing to pay for their service and product (a degree) – just like any other business. Now, the government steps in and offers a way to increase the immediate pool of funds available to colleges and universities. So, what happens? The original pool of funds plus the newly incremental pool of funds = the new cost of education. So, the government steps in again with a new plan to increase the pool and, presto, the cycle continues and will continue until the payers realize that they are being played as saps.

So, if you are really interested in arresting tuition costs, stop subsidizing them. All of a sudden, the universities and colleges will find numerous cost cutting methods to endure in their new reality as every other industry has to do when faced with a contraction in their ecosystem economy.

Just some free common sense that I am sure you will ignore since it does not conform with your socialist goals.

PS, I sold my car and road a bike advice for years to save money for my undergraduate education. I lived on the equivalent of beans and rice until I paid off my graduate education (in 3 years). We should expect the same or more self-reliance of others.

You are extremely factually challenged, Claude. Obama cut taxes for small business advice business and the middle class as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the tune of $288 Billion, $237 Billion of that directly to individuals. He also signed an extension of the Bush tax cuts.

How Trillions of dollars in cuts to Medicare and Social Security as well as over $800 Billion from the hyper-bloated DoD budget over ten years are small short term cuts doesn’t hold water just like the rest of your fact-free rants today.

This would have been a much more meaningful article if the reporter had looked at US domestic job creation stats from the past 10 years. Sometime in the last decade, the jobs created by SMALL small business advicees surpassed those created by big business, and that gap has been sustained and is growing. Big business now excel and offshoring and automation. Small business still hire locally and contribute back to the community that sustains them — their employees AND their customers are on US soil. This numbers are public record, and have been reported here in the WSJ, yet the commentary in this outlet seems impervious to them. Friedman would have had to go back to the drawing board on this item, since he died still holding the assumption that mega corporations generate most of the jobs here in the US — historically true, but only historically.

The president is an evil marxist who uses lies to advance communist policy. If it were true that the overall cost of healthcare were lower when women have (free lawyer advice) access to contraceptives, then every insurance company would already be offering them for free. You seriously think that if the presidents statement had any basis in reality insurance companies wouldn’t be providing contraception for free? oh. I get it, the insurance companies are too stupid to figure out their own best way of making profits, so thank God Obama came along to point out the error of their ways. The sad part is that he can make such an idiotic statement and half the country (and all the MSM) think he’s been brilliant. Spare me.
